Networked Interaction Therapy

高次脳機能障害者のための コミュニケーションを支援

Abstract

We are researching assisted communications technology that will reduce a caregiver’s load for people who have suffered mild brain damage. We are developing communication support technology, person action recognition technology, contents presentation technology, etc.

Aim

●People who have communication or brain function disabilities tend to have reduced chances for communication, remain indoors, and so on. It is therefore necessary to increase their ability to communicate so that their systems can be controlled and their chances for self-expression increased.
●A lot of time is spent by family caregivers on a patient’s problem behavior. Caretaker’s need to be relieved temporarily and take time away from nursing.

Technology

●Remote active listening support system
We developed the “Remote active listening support system” which supports remote communication between volunteers and patients. This was developed with video synchronization technology and photo sharing technology using TV telephone terminals.

●Robot Signboard System
We developed a “Robot Signboard System” that gives useful explanations to seniors or people with disabilities. This system consists of gaze tracking technology and communication robot technology.

●Restroom Task Support System
We developed a “Restroom Task Support System” that recognizes a person’s behavior and posture, which is inferred from changes in an infrared dot pattern.

Future Plan

We are developing overall life support technology not only for the home environment but also for various outside contexts such as in facilities and the outdoors.
