The Ishiguro Project:
Moon Shot Research and Development Project Goal 1:
Realize a society where people are liberated from the constraints of their bodies, brains, space, and time by 2050.

As the population ages and the birthrate declines, concerns about labor shortages are growing. It is important to enable people from diverse backgrounds and with different values, including those who need to provide or receive care, to participate in activities that align with their lifestyles. To achieve this, we must create a society that liberates people from the constraints of the body, brain, space, and time.

This research and development program aims to free people from these constraints by 2050. To this end, we will advance the research and development of cybernetic avatar technologies, which enhance human physical, cognitive, and perceptual capabilities through advanced cyborg and avatar technologies, while taking societal norms and values into account.

Cybernetic Avatar Alliance

The Dubai Future Lab (DFL) and Osaka University have signed a groundbreaking research and development (R&D) agreement under the supervision of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to develop new technologies and concepts.

The partnership is part of the Dubai Research and Development Program, which aims to support key economic sectors and promote growth in the Emirate of Dubai through a comprehensive framework for research, development, and innovation.

As part of the agreement, the DFL and the JST's Moon Shot Goal 1 will collaborate with Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), the University of Electro-Communications, the RIKEN Research Institute, and CyberAgent on joint research and development projects. Additionally, they have established the "Cybernetic Avatar Alliance: Dubai-Japan Laboratories for Cybernetic Avatar Technologies," a world-class research facility dedicated to advancing cybernetic avatar technologies.

This collaboration focuses on cutting-edge research in the field of cybernetic avatars, implementing the following three projects with a focus on advanced research activities.

  1. Develop technology that allows a single operator to control multiple cybernetic avatars (CAs) using a large language model (LLM).
  2. Developing cybernetic avatar robots suitable for cross-cultural interaction.
  3. Conduct a survey on the social acceptability of different types of CAs.

Avatar Symbiotic Society

The Avatar Symbiotic Society Consortium was established as part of Goal 1 of the Moon Shot Research and Development Project, "Realization of an Avatar Symbiotic Society Where Everyone Can Freely Thrive," with the aim of creating an avatar market that will enable everyone to thrive through the use of cybernetic avatars (CA).
